The use of optical memory as a replacement medium for documents was the goal of the IMAGO Project, which began in the early 1990s. It initiated the digitization of documentary sources in the Italian State Archives, projecting the conservation, enhancement, and promotion of the documentary heritage into a new dimension.
The project created a significant digital archive, notable not only for its innovative image acquisition technologies but also for the documents digitized, particularly the important Land and Wealth Registry series preserved in the State Archives of Naples.
